A heritage site for thirty-five years of the denar
The problem
A cultural heritage project marking thirty-five years of the Macedonian denar, needing to work as an exhibition, a map, a reading experience and a mobile companion at once.
Heritage content has a shape that no generic theme fits. Every banknote is an object with symbols, and every symbol points at a place you can actually stand in.
Two pieces
A custom theme and a companion plugin, split so the content survives a redesign. The plugin owns the content types — banknotes and coins, locations, story chapters, and the compositions that link them — along with JSON import and export. The theme owns nothing but presentation.
What it does
- Ten denominations, each with clickable hotspots on the note itself, tied to descriptive text supplied by the curator.
- Seventeen locations plotted on an interactive map, forming a trail you can follow physically.
- Six story chapters carrying the narrative between the objects.
- A visit collection mechanic using device location, so visiting a place unlocks it.
- Installable as a progressive web app, with a light and dark theme.
- Three languages — Macedonian as default, plus English and Albanian.
The outcome
A custom theme and a companion content plugin covering banknotes and coins, mapped locations, story chapters and a visitor collection mechanic, delivered as an installable web app in three languages.
